Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) plays an important role in Berlin’s eventful history. It was the contribution of the United States of America to Interbau which was a forum to explore new ideas for urban planning and development with the aim of redeveloping the vast devastated areas of post-war Berlin.
With its unique architectural design, it is one of the most popular landmarks in Berlin.
It was opened in 1957 as ‘Hall of Congress’ and was used mainly for this purpose until 1980, when parts of the roof collapsed due to material fatigue.
From 1984 to 1987 it was rebuilt and renamed the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
Since then it has been used for performing arts, exhibitions and congresses.
We have designed new stage machinery systems and upgraded production lighting and audio/video systems to provide the flexibility required for the venue’s diverse types of events. A special challenge was the integration of the stage machinery into the roof, which is curved around two axes.
